Exline Rambler 4-H Club news

CENTERVILLE — The Exline Ramblers met on Feb. 24 at the Adams Bowl in Centerville. The members had a brief meeting and enjoyed their annual bowling and snacks.

The Exline Ramblers met again on March 10 at the Exline City Hall. President Skyler Lawson called the meeting to order and roll call was made with 27 members present. The meeting was kicked off with an ice breaker – yarn connecting game that allowed  4-H’ers to get to know each other better.

Our agenda items included reviewing the 4-H newsletter as follows: Completing the roaster so that livestock identification forms can be sent to each member, the id forms must be completed by 5 p.m. on March 15; Intermediate 4-H trip on June 7; Food Safety Quality Assurance training on April 18 at 6 p.m. and testing dates: Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday, April 17 from 3:30 -5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office; youth project loans from FSA; Leaders Training on May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office, Pre-Entry dates have been set for Thursday, June 27, June 28 and Monday, July 1, lamb and meat goat weigh-ins on May 4, from 8–10 a.m. at Appanoose County Fairgrounds, reminder record books may be picked up at the Extension office, state fair swine changes for this year’s State Fair, Clothing Event scheduled for Tuesday, July 9, at the Appanoose County Fair, Youth Council on March 18, Communication Event on July 2 (seniors 8 a.m., intermediates 9:30 a.m., juniors 1 p.m.; 2013 at 9 a.m.; Adult Committee will be on March 28 at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office.

We spent some time reviewing our on-going Rambler group projects which included our bench project for the upcoming county fair, mum project for this fall, and our next meeting project which will be Adopt-A-Highway – trash pickup on April 14 at 2 p.m.

The Exline Ramblers would like to thank the family of Dr. Stephen Jewett for purchasing a memory bench to be placed at the Appanoose County fairgrounds.

Our goal is to sell five more benches. If anyone else is interested in purchasing a bench, contact Shawn Tait at (641) 895-1094.

The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served by Trey McCoy and Kirsten Brauman.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
