Sub-district leadership conference

Centerville FFA Members participated in the FFA Sub-district Leadership Conference in Seymour on Feb. 15. Front row are Clarissa Sinclair (Bronze in Chapter Quiz), Kayla Benson (Bronze in Chapter Quiz), Shaniel Smith (Silver and advancing to Districts in Extemporaneous Speaking), Katelyn Benson (Bronze in Chapter Quiz) and Taylor Robinson (Bronze in Chapter Quiz). Back row are Jeremiah McGrann (Bronze in Creed Speaking and Silver Alternate to Districts in Greenhand Quiz), Jessica Baker (Silver and Alternate to Districts in Greenhand Quiz) and Callie Collins (Silver and Alternate to Districts in Greenhand Quiz). Thanks to Shawn Tait for chaperoning this trip. Without volunteers like Shawn, students would be unable to participate in leadership activities like these. The chapter wishes Shaniel Smith the best of luck at Districts on March 13 in Creston as she competes in the Extemporaneous Speaking event and will be on the ballot for District Office as the 2010-2011 South Central District FFA secretary.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
