Travel not advised in central Iowa

DES MOINES — The Iowa State Patrol is not advising travel on I-35 from the Missouri border to Story City north of Ames and on I-80 from Dexter (97 mile marker) to Grinnell east of Des Moines due to blizzard conditions.

Colonel Patrick Hoye with the Iowa State Patrol says, “Troopers continue to respond to increasing numbers of accidents in central and south central Iowa, including Polk County. As conditions deteriorate, we want to urge people to stay off the roads if at all possible.”

Check weather/surface conditions by listening to weather reports on your local news or by checking road conditions at www.511ia.org. Motorists can also call 511 within Iowa or 1-800-288-1047 from other states to obtain up to date road conditions in Iowa. In the event that you are involved in or witness an accident, the State Patrol can be contacted by dialing 911 from any phone. For other non-emergency assistance from the Iowa State Patrol call 1-800-525-5555.
