Seymour’s Ethan Miller finished fourth in Men’s Decathlon

DES MOINES — Seymour native Ethan Miller finished fourth in the men’s college decathlon at the 2011 Drake Relays in Des Moines.

Miller, who is a junior track athlete at Central College, finished the decathlon with 7,134 points.

Miller won the 100 meter dash portion with a time of 10.94-seconds and finished second in the long jump event with a jump of 7.03-meters.

He finished third in the high jump with a height of 2.01 meters, fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.98, fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.63-seconds, sixth in the pole vault with a trial of 4.45 meters, eighth in the javelin throw with a toss of 45.77 meters, ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.70-meters, ninth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:51.92 and tenth in the discus throw with a throw of 33.94 meters.

Miller held the first day lead in the decathlon, after coming into the meet unsure of his chances.

“I looked at everybody else’s personal best and  there was a significant amount of them better than me pointswise and
I was real nervous when I came in," Miller said. "My coach (Guy Mosher) told me, ‘Just have a good time. It’s like you’re just there to
have fun.’ I’ve already made it into the (Division III) national meet.  I think people compete better when they’re relaxed.
I’m just trying to have a good time.”

The Daily Iowegian will publish an Editorial Question of the Week on the Opinion page. The Iowegian wants readers to think about the Internal Revenue Service scandal. Dick Polman in an editorial wrote "the IRS' targeting of small-fry conservative groups was not a conspiratorial socialist plot. It was knuckleheaded, ill-supervised bureaucratic ineptitude." So, the question of the week is, "Do you agree or disagree with Polman's analysis of the IRS scandal?"

A. Agree
B. Disagree
C. Not sure
