UPDATE: Male body found near Rathbun Lake

CENTERVILLE — Appanoose County Sheriff Gary Anderson Friday afternoon confirmed a male body was found near Rathbun Lake.

Sheriff Anderson said drowning and homicide do not appear to be the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.

The Ottumwa Courier is reporting a woman found the body and according to her daughter, she called for help at about 11:30 a.m. Friday after seeing a truck that had not moved since the previous day and a man laying nearby.

Rathbun Lake and much of the surrounding land is under the supervision of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Phil Brown, Rathbun Lake corp manager, said they "did have a report of a situation" and confirmed staff did contact law enforcement for assistance with a site on the shoreline near a campground.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
