Weather and road conditions continue to deteriorate

APPANOOSE COUNTY — Roads in Appanoose County are completely snow covered Tuesday morning, as snow continues to fall in the region.

The National Weather Service is predicting about 3 to 7 inches of snow today. They are forecasting an 80-100 percent chance of snow through 5 p.m. Tuesday. There is a 60-70 percent chance of snow from Tuesday at 5 p.m. through Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Winds will be in the mid-20s throughout Tuesday morning, decreasing to 20 mph Tuesday evening. The area could see gusts of up to 33 mph.

The temperature will be in the high-20s to the lower-30s today. However, wind chills will hover 15 and 20 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 5:55 a.m., the Iowa Department of Transportation reported that Highway 5 in Appanoose County was completely snow covered, but had not yet issued any travel advisory. The DOT does not list reports for Highway 2 in the county.

The county is under a winter storm warning, issued by the National Weather Service, until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
