Centerville’s Terry Terrones, Hospice of Central Iowa Centerville and Mount Pleasant regional director, recently completed her Master of Science in Nursing degree with a Community Health emphasis from Independence University’s California College for Health Sciences.
“This program was a great fit for me to continue my education while maintaining my focus of care for patients and their families in our area,” said Terrones, who earned a grade-point average of 4.0.
This degree program allowed Terrones to simultaneously carry on her duties as regional director for Hospice of Central Iowa. A 30-year leader in health care distance learning, Independence University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
“We are proud of Terry’s accomplishment, showing her dedication to providing excellent health care in our communities,” said Tray Wade, Hospice of Central Iowa’s vice president of Patient and Family Care. “As an organization, Hospice of Central Iowa puts a high value on continuing education. The better educated our staff is, the better service we can provide.”
Terrones’ current position as regional director for both Centerville and Mount Pleasant teams replaced her previous role as team director solely for Hospice of Central Iowa’s Centerville team. Her new role provides a more efficient use of the non-profit organization’s resources and helps share best practices. As regional director, Terrones focuses on leadership and development of the teams both internally and within the community. Additionally, she assists in developing and implementing patient and family care initiatives, conducts “in the field” quality assurance, and develops team budgets, marketing plans and strategic initiatives.
As part of the leadership restructure, Deb Davison, RN, also of Centerville, accepted the position of clinical resource nurse for the Centerville team. In this role, she assists Terrones with day-to-day management tasks and acts as clinical resource for the team, allowing Terrones to focus on improving access to hospice services.
Terrones has been with Hospice of Central Iowa since 2002. She received her accreditation as a certified hospice and palliative nurse through the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses in 2006 and was recertified in 2009. Hospice of Central Iowa is the only hospice in the area to support this certification of its staff, demonstrating its commitment to providing excellent end-of-life care. Terrones earned her associate degree from Hawkeye Community College in Omaha and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College in Waterloo.
Hospice of Central Iowa is the state's oldest and largest non-profit hospice care provider, serving 35 counties. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, we are committed to providing excellent end-of-life care to patients and compassionate support for their families, whether they live at home, or in nursing care facilities, hospitals or our residential hospice care facilities, the Kavanagh Houses.
