Alliant Energy invests $10,000 in Coalition

WEST DES MOINES — Alliant Energy, a Midwest energy company that provides electric and natural gas services to communities throughout Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota, affirms its support of Iowa agriculture through a $10,000 investment in the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers.

“We applaud the great effort that the Coalition has put forth to educate and assist Iowa livestock farmers with improving and growing their livestock operations,” said Dave Warrington, Agricultural Representative for Alliant Energy.  “Feedback from our customers indicates a strong appreciation of the information and assistance they receive from the Coalition.”

The Alliant Energy investment will be used to support the increasingly popular Green Farmstead Partner program, sponsored by the Coalition in cooperation with Trees Forever and the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association.  It offers timely and cost-effective assistance to farmers wanting to plant trees and shrubs around their livestock and poultry buildings.

“We’re very thankful for Alliant Energy’s investment to the Coalition and extremely grateful of their continued support of Iowa agriculture,” says Brian Waddingham, executive director of CSIF.  “Alliant Energy is committed to caring for the environment and their investment to the Coalition’s Green Farmstead Partner program really underscores that commitment.”

“Alliant Energy’s Ag program is dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and environmental stewardship with our agriculture customers,” Warrington said.  “Our sponsorship of the Green Farmstead Partner program is an excellent way to enhance our efforts to help support livestock production in the state of Iowa.”

The Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers was created by farmers to help farmers raise livestock successfully and responsibly.  It’s a joint partnership involving the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Turkey Federation and Midwest Dairy Association.

The non-profit, non-partisan organization provides assistance to farmers at no cost.  CSIF does not lobby or develop policy.  Farm families wanting a helping hand can contact the Coalition at 1-800-932-2436 or visit www.supportfarmers.com.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
