CENTERVILLE —
Lange Funeral Home is preparing to begin offering crematory services to the local community.
A cremation chamber was delivered to the recently added addition at the Lange Funeral Home on Monday, July 2. The addition was finished in February, but the delivery of the chamber was delayed for three months. It was received from B&L Cremation Systems, Inc. in Largo, Fla. and will be able to be put into use after the staff takes classes.
According to owner Tom Lange, the unit can reach 2,200 degrees and use 1 million BTUs of energy, but the public won't see any outside evidence when the unit is in use. Lange also said that the business would be installing a three person cooler that Mercy Medical Center can use when they have a patient who wishes to donate their organs after death. Currently the hospital uses ice packs to preserve donors until a transplant team arrives.
This will be the only crematory in Appanoose County and also plans to serve surrounding communities.
"The staff here at Lange Funeral Home feels that it is a necessity to provide families with the opportunity to be taken care of here in Appanoose County," said Lange. "We have the only crematory in the county. Our firm does not want to take loved ones out of town to provide cremation.”
Several local businesses were involved in the construction of the new addition as well as the delivery and installation of the new equipment. They were Lockridge, Walker's Welding, C&C Machining, Cornerhart Electric, Moorman Heating and Cooling, Ideal Ready Mix, Exline Builders and Dwight Pfannebecker.
There will be an open house at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in the near future to provide the community with the opportunity to see the crematory and ask the staff questions regarding cremation.
