Authorities investigating E-B-F incident

OTTUMWA — Authorities from Mahaska and Wapello counties are investigating a Tuesday incident at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont school district's elementary school.

According to a message posted on the district's website, a white minivan with a gold stripe approached students at the elementary school during recess. The minivan had at least one white male in it, who invited the students to see some puppies.

None of the boys entered the van and no one exited it. The van did not cross onto school property, nor did the boys leave.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Mahaska or Wapello county sheriffs' departments or the elementary school

The district's letter:

This letter is to inform all parents of an incident at Eddyville Elementary today.  During recess four different students indicated that a white minivan with a gold stripe that contained at least one white male invited the boys to go with him to see some puppies.

No one exited the vehicle and the vehicle did not cross onto school property.  The boys were on school property and were safe at all times.

Mahaska and Wapello County Sheriff Offices are working cooperatively with the school district.  The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Community School District puts student safety first.  We are providing all needed information to the joint sheriff’s offices.  We have collaboratively developed a safety plan starting Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
