Arterburn guilty of first degree murder

OSKALOOSA — After a full day of deliberation Wednesday, the jury in the first degree murder trial of Brad Arterburn found him guilty.

Arterburn, 27, of Oskaloosa, was convicted of the murder of his mother’s boyfriend, Robert Henry “Hank” Horovitz, 58, of Davenport, on June 19, 2011. Arterburn entered a plea of not guilty in Mahaska County Court July 12, 2011.

The jury began deliberation around 8:50 a.m. and delivered their unanimous judgment at about 4:40 p.m.

Judge Lucy Gamon ordered the conduct of a pre-sentence investigation, which will take about 12 weeks to complete. After completion of the pre-sentence investigation, a sentencing date will be set, she said.

First degree murder is a Class A felony in Iowa and carries a life sentence.
