Knoxville plans fire department open house

KNOXVILLE — The Knoxville Fire Department will hold an open house Friday, Nov. 30, from 5-6 p.m. It will double as a meet-and-greet with the two finalists for the vacant fire chief's position.

Interim Fire Chief Greg Higginbotham invites everyone to see the department's new look, following a remodeling project, and the new monument.

Remodeling has been an ongoing project for the Knoxville Fire Department. Painting was completed during the summer and most of the work was completed by early fall.

“We're excited for that Open House,” Higginbotham said. “It will be a good one.”

This weekend, the two finalists for fire chief are also being interviewed. They will be at the open house to meet the public.

The process has taken longer than initially anticipated and is now in its third round. Former chief Mike Roberts was terminated in February after the city cited "inappropriate conduct."
