KNOXVILLE —
Iowa saw only the slightest of changes in its drought situation according to Thursday's report from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The weekly report tracks drought conditions nationally and allows people to see detailed maps of where drought conditions are taking place. Iowa's conditions have been largely stable for several weeks.
A tiny sliver of southwestern Iowa slipped from moderate drought to severe drought in this week's report, the only change in the state. The shift was so small it accounted for less than one-half of one percent of the state's territory.
Most of southeast Iowa remains in moderate drought, though most of Appanoose, Monroe and Marion counties fall into the severe drought category. The worst conditions are confined to far northwestern Iowa.
November has been a disappointment to those who hoped a wet October might lead to more rainfall this month. November precipitation has been well below normal, the sixth month in the past eight in which rain did not reach the average.
