833rd Engineer Company heading to Afghanistan

OTTUMWA — The 833rd Engineer Company is heading back overseas, this time to Afghanistan.

The sendoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 at the Hellyer Student Life Center at Indian Hills Community College. The callup involves about 100 soldiers.

The 833rd was previously deployed twice to Iraq. The first deployment was from October 2004 to December 2005, while the second was from June 2007 to June 2008.

The company's responsibilities include removing obstacles and explosives from transportation routes.
