Nativity scene returns to Oskaloosa square with other holiday items

OSKALOOSA — After a discussion Wednesday evening during a special meeting at City Hall, the Oskaloosa City Council voted to return a Nativity scene to the City Square Park.

They voted to add to the decorations within the city square so that it’s not just a Nativity scene, but that it is accompanied by a Christmas tree as well as other secular holiday decorations.

On the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting was an item regarding “Discussion and possible action on establishing a policy for decorations and event use in the city square.”

Several area residents voiced their thoughts on the Nativity scene once displayed in City Square Park at Wednesday’s meeting.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
