Cincinnati native leaves for Afghanistan
The tremendous amounts of rain we received caused a lot of damage to many people’s homes, crops, properties, businesses, etc. Appanoose County had several bridges wash out and become unsafe for use resulting in many closed roads and detours for the area.

The second winter in Canada was terrible, severely cold, with a lot of snow. At one time the temperature dipped to 46 below zero, and snow completely covered the fences.

Nancy Mericle, resident of Centerville, has loaned me a short autobiography of her mother, Alberta Larsen Nilssen, who was taken to a prairie homestead in Canada in 1905, when she was still a baby of 1 and 1/2 years old.
