EXLINE —
We sure have had really hot weather this week. You would think it was late July or August with this kind of heat. We usually get this kind of weather to help the corn grow.
The recipe for this week, is a novelty one that a long time friend sent to me. It sounds like a quick and easy way to prepare a fast snack.
5 MINUTE MUG CHOCOLATE CAKE
Ingredients:
4 Tb. flour
4 Tb. sugar
2 Tb. cocoa
1 egg beaten
3 Tb. milk
3 Tb. oil
3 Tb. chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (microwave safe)
To prepare this recipe, add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if desired) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for three minutes at 1,000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed. Allow to cool a little and tip out onto a plate if desired. This may serve two people if you would like to share.
The note on the original recipe asked, “Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now you are all only five minutes away from a chocolate cake at any time of the day or night.”
Spaces for the flea market that is to be held on 4th of July are still available. They are free of charge to anyone who would be interested in setting up a booth to sell things or have a craft booth at the celebration in Exline. If you are interested in reserving a free spot, you may call (641) 658-2399 for further details.
During the 4th of July festivities there is going to be music for everyone to enjoy. At 4 p.m. in the afternoon, the Fine Line Bluegrass group will perform. Then at 6:30 p.m., the Exline Family will entertain.
Beginning at noon, if anyone is interested in performing, they are going to have open microphone time. For further details you may call Penny at the Exline Old Country Store at (641) 658-2399.
This coming Monday, June 13, will be when the Exline Royal Neighbors, Camp 3000, will host their annual “Coffee Break.” The event will be from 9-10:30 a.m. that morning. This gathering, is open to the public and is a time for everyone to get together to enjoy a pleasant visit over coffee, along with orange juice, fruit and homemade coffee cake. Door prizes will be given away during that morning.
Marge and Murl Hatfield’s son, Dr. Donald E. Hatfield, is a professor at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Va. He will be embarking on an adventure this summer, by teaching at the college in Maymundangilang, China. There was even a write up in a Chinese publication announcing that he will be a teacher at this place of higher learning.

I hope everyone had a nice time ringing in the New Year! Now, everyone will have to get used to writing 2013 on everything. It always seems like it takes a while to get use to doing that.

Good turn out for Royal Neighbors ice cream social
Wasn’t that nice how we received some much needed rain fall last weekend? We ended up with almost two inches of rain in our gauge last weekend from those rain storms. By Monday, some of our grass in our yard began to turn green again after the long, dry summer.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend. The flags lining Main Street and along the Exline Cemetery, sure looked nice furling in the wind, over the holiday. It is hard to believe it is the month of June already.

The early springtime weather sure has been enjoyable. Some people say we may have a cold snap to interrupt this stretch of good weather. We just have to hope we do not get any late spring snow storms like we have experienced in the past.
