Centerville’s animal rescue program needs financial help

CENTERVILLE — Dear Editor,

The city of Centerville’s animal rescue program needs donations to keep the program running. We really appreciate all the donations we have received and want to thank each and everyone for any donations that they have given, whether in a monetary donation or animal food or in whatever capacity they have helped.

Some statistics for the past year are that we have sent a total of 17 dogs to the ARL in Des Moines, which is a low kill shelter, and the cost is $25 per dog. We have taken 44 dogs to the Heartland Shelter in Ottumwa, which is a no kill shelter, and the cost is $25 per dog. We have taken three dogs to the Marshalltown no kill shelter, which the cost is $75 per dog. We have also taken one dog to the Chariton no kill shelter. This year we have placed twice as many dogs in a no kill shelter.  To date the Centerville Animal Facility has taken over 500 dogs to one of the shelters in the last six years. This has all been possible because of your donations; all the donations cover the shelter fees.  With your help the city of Centerville will be able to keep this program going, without donations we won’t be able to continue with the program.

If you would like to make any donations mail them to Centerville City Hall, P.O. Box 578, 312 E. Maple St., Centerville, IA 52544. If you have any questions feel free to contact Animal Control: Tom Beck at (641) 895-0098.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about President Barack Obama. Since Barack Obama was elected president, two significant things have occurred: The military repealed the "Dont' Ask, Don't Tell" policy allowing gays and lesbians to openly serve and just recently he publicly said he supports gay marriage. For some, these actions signal a shift away from God, morality and threatens national security. Others say it's about time people in same-sex relationships can wed and openly gay service members do not threaten national security. Now, depending on who you listen to, President Obama is the first "gay" president of the United States. Is that something to worry about? So, the question this week is, "President Barack Obama, the first "gay" president of the United States. Is it cause for concern?"

A. Yes it is.
B. No it is not.
C. Don't care.
D. Not sure.
