CENTERVILLE —
Paula Dal Ponte, a member of Omega chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, attended the inaugural 2012 Neva Barnhart Leadership Seminar at the William Penn College for Working Adults, West Des Moines Campus, June 25-27. This intense three day educational training was taught by leaders in the field of education in Iowa and included course work in understanding personal and leadership styles, effective decision making, successful communications, managing across generations, team building and conflict management.
Mary Zirkelbach committee chair, from Johnston, praised the seminar for “skills that will enrich both their profession and their communities.”
Upsilon state organization president, Angela Pratt, from Boone welcomed participants to this first DKG seminar held in Iowa.
Over the past 30 years, the Society has selected and financed the leadership training of over 720 of the 100,000 members living in 17 countries. Established in 1929, the Society defines its mission as promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. This organization of key women educators provides numerous benefits, including scholarships, world fellowships to women who are not members, grants and stipends for research and special projects, presentations at professional meetings, opportunities to write for a juried/peer reviewed publication, participation in community service projects that benefit education and making a difference in the lives of women, children and youth.
Dal Ponte was selected for this honor for her work in the Society, abilities as a professional educator, and involvement in her community. She is currently serving the Society as Nominations Committee chair on the state level.
Dal Ponte said, “This was a tremendous opportunity in which I learned a great deal about both leadership and my role in a leadership position.”
Dal Ponte is currently a secondary English instructor at Wayne Community Schools.
