CENTERVILLE —
For almost two hours Central Elementary first grade students in Centerville Friday afternoon participated in several stations designed to give them the opportunity to explore water.
The 55 children of Mrs. Durham, Mrs. Hays and Mrs. Sivett's first grade class explored nine water stations, some inside and some outside the school building located on Drake Avenue.
In groups of six, students outside explored water balloon tossing, water bubbles, water flotation, water painting and water sponge tag. Inside they measured water, listened to books on water, examined a penny with a drop of water on it and what sinks or floats in water.
"And this is a hands on," Hays said about the class's follow-up on the properties of water. "What you can do and see everyday with water."
Following the hands on day, students will write or draw something to explain what they learned or found most interesting about water.
"Something new that they learned from water," Hays said. "And maybe they draw an illustration and write about the one they liked the best."
