Pre-K meet and greet to be held on July 16

Mrs. Kaster’s Pre-K held their first of two meet and greets on June 28 at the Community Preschool building.

The meet and greet is a mini preschool experience to give parents and students from the community an idea of what they can look forward to in the upcoming school year.

Students started the morning exploring different learning centers with their new friends and teachers. Then students practiced self help skills during snack by washing and drying their hands, pouring their own drink and opening their own snacks. Learning these skills will prepare them for the next year in kindergarten.

After snack time, Mrs. Mason read an Eric Carle story called The Very Hungry Caterpillar accompanied by her caterpillar puppet. Next, students created their own caterpillar. Mrs. Brooke and Mrs. Mason were available to guide students as they learned to use glue sticks to paste the circles to form a caterpillar.

The morning was wrapped up with a time for singing.

Parents and four-year-old children from the community that are interested in a morning of fun together or plan to attend Mrs. Kaster’s Pre-K are encouraged to attend the second meet and greet which will be held on July 16 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Community Preschool building on highway 5 in Centerville.

There is no obligation to enroll but you may pick up or drop off your registration papers at this time.

Sarah Mason will be the lead teacher this year, Michelle Brooke will be the teacher’s aide and Jillian Kaster will remain the director of the program.

Tuition is free up to 16 hours if your child will be four on or before Sept. 15, 2009. Two class sections are available. Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. If you are interested in all four days or have any questions about Pre-K contact Jillian Kaster at (641) 895-4471.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent decision by the Centerville Municipal Waterworks Board of Directors to increase the fee for late payment of water bills. In a story published in Wednesday's Ad Express, board members announced a 10 percent late fee after two days late, a $50 red tag fee for accounts unpaid after seven days late and a $25 shut off fee, water service terminated after two weeks late. The board said the decision to increase the fees associated with late payment is to encourage customers to pay their bills on time. So, the question this week is, "Are these fees too much to ask for?"

A. Yes, they are.
B. No, they are not.
C. I'm not affected so I don't care.
