The Indian Hills Community College Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Bridge City Explosion, under the direction of Dr. Laura Wiebe and Diana Upton-Hill, will present a Fall Vocal Concert at Indian Hills Community College, St. John Auditorium on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
This will be the public’s first chance to hear the Indian Hills Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers and Bridge City Explosion during the 2012-13 academic year. The concert is free and open to the public. Laura Wiebe will direct the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers. Diana Upton-Hill will lead the Bridge City Explosion.
The ensembles will perform a variety of American and European vocal music. With a theme of “Homeland,” Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will present a variety of selections including Williametta Spencer’s “At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners,” Ernst Toch’s spoken chorus “Geographical Fugue,” Z. Randall Stroope’s “Homeland” and James Taylor’s “That Lonesome Road.”
David Sharp, Indian Hills Professor of Instrumental Music and Jazz, will be the featured soloist on Anders Paulsson’s inventive arrangement of “Deep River.”
Bridge City Explosion will present a program of song and dance from the 1980s choreographed by Dorothy Day. Using an arrangement by Kirby Shaw, the group will perform a medley of songs including "Flashdance...What a Feeling," "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," "I Love Rock 'n Roll," "Let's Hear It for the Boy," "Material Girl,” "All Night Long (All Night)," "Thriller" and "Footloose."
The ensembles will be accompanied by Emily Wolf, staff accompanist and Indian Hills piano instructor.
