Board approves re-exemption for plaque

CENTERVILLE — The Centerville Community School District school board held a special meeting, work session and board retreat Monday, Oct. 22 at the district's administration office.

The special board meeting was called to order at 5:33 p.m. and adjourned at 5:40 p.m.

During the special board meeting a request for a one-time re-exemption of policy for “Memorials for Deceased Students or Staff” for Master Sgt. Travis W. Riddick memorial plaque in place of a bench at Centerville High School was passed unanimously.

The memorial plaque in honor of Riddick was donated by the U.S. Marine Corp.

The board's work session and retreat was called to order at 5:40 p.m. The work session and retreat adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

During the work session and retreat Iowa Association of School Board Director of Board Development Mary Jane Vens talked about "standards for visionary ethical leadership" and roles for superintendent and board members was discussed.
