DES MOINES – New leaders have been elected to serve on the Iowa Association of School Boards’ board of directors. The statewide organization is governed by a board of directors elected by IASB members from nine regions. Directors serve three-year terms. The IASB president is elected for a two-year term.
The following school board members joined the board for their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 19:
• District 3: Roger Shaffer, Sumner Community School District
• District 6: Richard Clewell, Davenport Community School District
• District 8: Steve Hoch, Centerville Community School District
• District 9: George Wheeler, Fort Madison Community School District
In addition, the board’s executive committee saw a turnover in leadership, which occurs every two years. The new executive committee includes:
• President Russ Wiesley, Waukee Community School District
• President-Elect Lee Ann Grimley, Springville Community School District
• Past President Jack Hill, North Scott Community School District
• Treasurer William Morain, Lamoni
“It’s truly exciting to have such an outstanding, thoughtful group of people to guide the association’s core work,” said Russ Wiesley, a longtime Waukee board member who took over as president. “There is a lot of good work going on in education today, and our purpose is to help school boards across the state continue moving forward.”
Other members of the IASB board include Amy Jurrens of the George-Little Rock Community School District, Susan Shaw of the Forest City Community School District, Michael Sexton of the Rockwell City-Lytton Community School District, Marcia DeZonia of the Gilbert Community School District, Katie Temple of the Southeast Polk Community School District, Tom Wieseler of the Mt. Vernon Community School District, Scott Hansen of the Griswold Community School District, James Green of Grant Wood AEA and Roy Lamansky of Indian Hills Community College.
