Four Iowa 4-H members have received $1,000 Orscheln 4-H scholarships sponsored by Orscheln Farm and Home L.L.C. Recipients are from Appanoose, Henry, Linn and Montgomery counties.
• Appanoose County 4-H’er Tara Powers, Numa, has received a $1,000 Orscheln 4-H Scholarship. Powers, 18, is the daughter of Barb Powers and the late Larry Powers.
A nine-year 4-H member, Powers has been involved in the horse, rabbit, visual art, dairy goat and woodworking project areas. She has served as club president, vice president and secretary. She plans to attend Iowa State University to major in animal science.
“4-H has been a major part of my life,” Powers said. “I have gained leadership skills that I use daily.”
• Henry County 4-H’er Erika Meierotto, Salem, has received a $1,000 Orscheln 4-H Scholarship. Meierotto, 18, is the daughter of Wayne and Nadine Meierotto.
A nine-year 4-H member, Meierotto has been involved in the horse, dog, sheep, poultry and rabbit project areas. She served as club vice president, treasurer and historian. She plans to attend Iowa State University to major in engineering.
“4-H taught me that hard work and determination pay off in the end,” said Meierotto.
• Linn County 4-H’er Jennifer Zingula, Central City, has received a $1,000 Orscheln 4-H Scholarship. Zingula, 18, is the daughter of Curt and Gayle Zingula.
A nine-year 4-H member, Zingula has been involved in the dog, goat, woodworking, communication and photography project areas. She served as club president, treasurer and reporter. She plans to attend Iowa State University to major in animal science.
“I honestly do no know where I would be without the opportunities and experiences I have had through 4-H,” Zingula said. “This organization has made such a vast impact on my life. The friendships I have made and life skills that I have acquired will stick with me for the rest of my life and help me to be successful.”
• Montgomery County 4-H’er Dylan Dolch, Elliott, has received a $1,000 Orscheln 4-H Scholarship. Dolch, 18, is the son of Vince and Becky Dolch.
A nine-year 4-H member, Dolch has been involved in the welding, woodworking, beef cattle, food and nutrition and pie baking project areas. He served as club president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. He plans to attend Iowa State University to major in agricultural studies.
“4-H helped me become a better leader, communicator and team player,” said Dolch.
