Routes project?

CENTERVILLE — The Daily Iowegian will publish an Editorial Question of the Week on the Opinion page.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project that was intended to go from Howar Junior High School to Lakeview Elementary in Centerville.

When the first bid came in more than $75,000 over the projected construction budget, it appeared as if the wheels fell off the wagon.

What should the city do? The low estimate is at least $75,000 is needed to fully fund the project. But that number could be much higher.

Read a detailed account of what the city has done and needs to do get the project back on track in today's Daily Iowegian.

Now the City Council is expected to address the project during their Monday, Aug. 6 meeting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.

So, the question this week is, "Should the Centerville City Council try to raise the additional money needed to build the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project or return the more than $249,000 DOT grant back to the state?"

Go to the Daily Iowegian website, www.dailyiowegian.com, and scroll down the home page to POLL on the right hand side and cast your vote. Or call the Iowegian office at (641) 856-6336 or email the editor at iowegianeditor@mchsi.com to cast a vote.

B. No received 87 votes.

C. Not sure received two votes.

So, the question of the week is, "Based on what you have read so far about the five city administrator candidates, which one would you pick?"

A. Patrick Antonen
B. Joe Gaa
C. Darrel Steven Carlyle
D. Chelsea Huisman
E. Alan Johnson
