Librarian thanks community

CENTERVILLE — Dear Community,

I am writing to thank all of the people who helped make the Drake Public Library’s Summer Reading Program a success. Everyone, and I do hope I remember everyone, really made this a fun summer.

Thank you….Drake Public Library Director and Staff, Jami Miller Livingston, Julie Buban, Beth Burgin, Vicky Rulo, Kathy Tiemier, Denise Cassidy, and Bill Hamm. You helped me out in my first year as Children’s Librarian and supported the Summer Reading Program in many ways.

Thank you….Friends of Drake Public Library and our Library Board of Directors for both funding and volunteering your time and talents to this year’s program.

Thank you…Special Guests and Hosts of our Thursday afternoon Library

Kids Group:

Lisa Eddy at the Appanoose County Historic Museum, Jennifer Jamison and Beth Conn at Hardee’s, Jennifer Frampton from Rathbun Solid Waste Commission, Jillian Livingston, who set up our new fish tank and taught us how to take care of Alex, Bella and Lilly, Laura DeCook and Mark Hoffman at Sharon Bluffs Nature Center and Kylie Ward from Rathbun Lake Corps of Engineers.

You all taught us so much and your time and expertise is greatly appreciated!

Thank you…businesses that donated prizes to the Summer Reading Program:

Hardee’s, Pizza Hut, Sonic, Wal-Mart and Iowa Public Television.

Thank you…to the volunteers at the Waterworks Carnival, which was the finale for our Summer Reading Program:

Kathy Cridlebaugh, Colene Cebuhar, Kim Stonehouse, Nancy Miller, Jillian Livingston, Katie Bratz, Jessica Bratz, Gerrit Micetich, Mike Barth, and of course, our library staff members who helped throughout the day. It was such a fun day!

Thank you…Iowegian staff, Michael Schaffer and Krystal Fowler, for helping with publicity by visiting us on program days and during our Waterworks Carnival.

A Big Thank You….Summer Reading Program participants, their parents and family members. I saw such enthusiasm for reading and learning while working with these children. They are all truly something that we should all be proud of here in Centerville and the surrounding communities. We have had 40 children meet or exceed their reading goals for the Summer Reading Program and many more are continuing to read at their own pace, which makes me very proud! It has been a year of many firsts for me and I am looking forward to this next year with enthusiasm!

Sincerely,

JeNel Allen Barth

Poll

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent decision by the Centerville Municipal Waterworks Board of Directors to increase the fee for late payment of water bills. In a story published in Wednesday's Ad Express, board members announced a 10 percent late fee after two days late, a $50 red tag fee for accounts unpaid after seven days late and a $25 shut off fee, water service terminated after two weeks late. The board said the decision to increase the fees associated with late payment is to encourage customers to pay their bills on time. So, the question this week is, "Are these fees too much to ask for?"

A. Yes, they are.
B. No, they are not.
C. I'm not affected so I don't care.
