Spending, taxing problem?

CENTERVILLE — The Daily Iowegian will publish an Editorial Question of the Week on the Opinion page.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent sequestration and automatic spending cuts. Some say the United States has a spending problem. Others say the United States has a taxing problem, where the wealthy are not paying their fair share.

So, the question this week is, "What say you: Does the country have a spending problem or should taxes on the wealthy be raised?"

Go to the Daily Iowegian website, www.dailyiowegian.com, and scroll down the home page to POLL on the right hand side and cast your vote. Or call the Iowegian office at (641) 856-6336 or email the editor at iowegianeditor@mchsi.com to cast a vote.

Vote on the Question of the Week up until Wednesday, March 13 at 12 p.m. The results will be published in the Thursday, March 14 paper along with a new question.

Here are the results from the last poll question: "Should the city ends its involvement or should they pass an ordinance that does prevent exotic dancers in Cincinnati?"

A. End involvement received 85 votes.

B. Pass ordinance received 68 votes.

C. Not sure received seven votes.

The Iowegian wants readers to think about the debate Rep. Larry Sheets talks about at the state capital centered on "accepting Medicaid expansion as defined by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), or choosing to create an Iowa specific health care program. Those who prefer the Medicaid expansion believe the federal government will fulfill its commitments three years from now. Those opposing explain that the federal government is only capable of that by borrowing the money from the Chinese." So, the question this week is, "Should Iowa accept the federal government's Medicaid expansion or create a health care program specific to the state?"

A. Accept Medicaid expansion.
B. Create health care program.
