Community support during a trying situation

CENTERVILLE — Dear Editor,

The Centerville Fire Department and the city of Centerville cannot say enough good things for all of the assistance rendered on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The following contributed during the fire at Gypsy Quarter Tuesday, Sept. 25: Hy-Vee, Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, Hardees, Caseys General Store, McDonalds, The Continental on the Square, the 18-80 Club, Southern Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross, Alliant Energy, the Centerville Police Department, Centerville Police Reserves, Appanoose County Sheriffs Department, the Iowa State patrol, Mercy Medical Center EMS, ADLM Emergency Management, Mystic, Moravia, Cincinnati, Moulton, Seymour, Corydon, Allerton, Albia, Liberty Township Missouri fire departments and members of the Centerville Fire Department and their families.

On that night before going home I went back to the Gypsy Quarter to take one last look at the building to make sure everything was OK. As I was standing there running the days events through my head a lady walked up to me and told me what a good job we had done. Her final words were “People can say all the bad things they want about Centerville and Appanoose County but they don’t know the good people we have living here.”

I tend to agree with her.

Sincerely,

Centerville Fire Chief Mike Bogle
