Open council meetings with a prayer

CENTERVILLE — Dear Editor,

Several weeks ago I approached the mayor to have prayer prior to the city council meetings. I was not surprised at the results although disappointed as well as others at the brush off of God. Flower stands on the Square were more important.

Statements like one nation under God is enough and I like to keep my beliefs private among others shows why this city, county and country are in the shape they are in. No person can do it alone.

I ask the mayor to allow the ministers of this city to administer the prayers at each meeting and if the ministers didn't want to take the responsibility I would gladly accept it as my service to my God, city, county and country.

People today want to blame God for their problems when in fact they are the problem. They do not want to recognize him as their source. We need to realize He is not the problem, He is the solution and put Him back in to government, schools and all phases of our lives. Yes, we should be One nation under God but until the city governments and the people take a stand it won't be. Today our nation is more like Sodom and Gamorrah than the United States. Does our city want to be a prosperous and growing city and a leader or do we want to continue to go down and depend on the state and federal government to feed us?
