CENTERVILLE —
The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors Thursday morning dropped their plan to hire the Wayne County attorney to temporarily fill in for absent Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott.
Just 30 minutes before the board was to convene a special meeting Thursday at 9 a.m. to name a temporary acting county attorney, board member Jody McDanel said he received a call from Scott who said he plans to be back at work Friday, Sept. 7.
Scott was absent from his job Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 4-6.
Scott's attorney, David Brown, said his client was discharged from a Des Moines hospital Wednesday, Sept. 5 after spending several days getting care. Brown says Scott took a prescription sleeping medication and had an adverse reaction at his home late Friday, Aug. 31. He said police responded and got him treatment.
The board Thursday morning did relieve acting temporary county attorney Tom Anders of his duties, who filled in for a few days to sign paperwork in Scott's absence.
Rick Lynch, the Davis County attorney, filled in for Scott for approximately 30 days when Scott's law license was temporarily suspended by the Iowa Supreme Court May 2. Scott's law license was reinstated May 30.
Scott's law license was suspended after regulators said cases were being dismissed because of his absences. The Iowa Supreme Court reinstated his law license after finding Scott wasn't disabled, but ordered him to be closely monitored for 90 days.
During the 90 day period the Attorney Disciplinary Board was ordered to contact Lynch for a report on Scott’s performance.
