Senator’s aide will be in Centerville July 28

Sen. Chuck Grassley’s regional director, Aaron McKay, will be holding open office hours in Appanoose and Monroe Counties on Tuesday, July 28. These office hours provide an opportunity for Iowans to obtain casework assistance or to express views and ask questions on any subject. His schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, July 28 from 9 to 10 a.m. he will be in the Monroe County Courthouse Board of Supervisors room at 10 Benton Ave. E. in Albia.

Then from 11 a.m. to noon he will be at Rathbun Regional Water Association meeting room, 20225 Highway 5 in Centerville.

Grassley's offices in Iowa regularly help constituents contact federal and state agencies to sort through problems with Social Security payments, military service matters and immigration cases.  His state offices are located in Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo.

“These open office hours are designed to help more Iowans access the assistance that is available from the office of their United States Senator.  I hope any Iowan with federal agency-related casework, including federal disaster assistance, will take advantage of Aaron’s visits,” Sen. Grassley said.

Should constituents have any questions, contact Grassley’s Des Moines Office at (515) 288-1145.

So, the question this week is, “Will it stay or will it go?” The United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. wants to close three Farm Service Agency offices in southern Iowa, which includes the FSA office in Centerville, and consolidate the operations in order to save money. Tuesday afternoon a meeting was held at Faith United Methodist Church to allow farmers and other producers who use the Centerville FSA office to make comments about the closing to John R. Whitaker, state executive director Iowa FSA. Many questioned if the meeting Tuesday was necessary because the decision had already been made.

A. Yes, because Washington will listen.
B. No, because the decision to close the Appanoose County FSA office has already been made.
