CENTERVILLE —
The Centerville City Council Monday night will look at approving a preliminary resolution for street construction improvements, which includes 10th Street from West Maple Street to West Washington Street; West State Street from Fifth Street to 10th Street; and East State Street from Haynes Avenue to 18th Street and from 18th Street to the entrance to Oakland Cemetery.
Hall Engineering of Centerville is the engineer for what is being called, "2012 Street Improvements, Centerville, Iowa," project.
Another resolution the council will consider for approval Monday night is to fix new values for the lots located inside the street improvement project due to the proposed public improvement. The agenda doesn't include what those new values might be, but it states, "No property shall be assessed more than it is benefiting by the improvements nor more than 25% of its value on the date of its assessment."
Property owners assessed for the street improvement project can participate during a hearing Sept. 17 during the council meeting that starts at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Other resolutions the council will consider for approval associated with the street improvement project includes the adoption of preliminary plat, schedule and estimate of costs and necessity (proposed).
The resolutions don't end there, as the council will consider supporting Chariton Valley Planning & Development Council of Governments by paying an annual fee of $2,000 for their fiscal year 2013. CVP&D is a regional planning commission and governs Appanoose, Lucas, Monroe and Wayne counties. The annual fee, according to CVP&D, allows then to help "secure state and federal funding for programs."
The council will look at final action on a perpetual care agreement with Appanoose County Conservation Board to administer, improve and manage land funded by REAP in 2006.
Discussion items on the agenda include possible land transfers to Appanoose County, Safe Routes to School project, possible locations for a brush dump and a bow hunt deer harvest this fall and winter inside Centerville.
The agenda lists 20 acres of Lelah Bradley Park, East Wastewater Treatment Plant, Bella Vista and private property when authorized by the owner as areas that will be open for the deer hunt. Certain requirements must be met before a hunter can participate and those requirements can be found by going to the City Hall in Centerville.
One Centerville resident sent a letter to the city supporting the archery doe-only deer hunt within the city limits.
"As a resident, hunter, and former hunter safety instructor who last year qualified for and harvested two doe deer by archery within city limits, I want to send my support for allowing another season to take place," Richard Brees, of Centerville, wrote in a letter dated Aug. 12 and sent to City Hall.
Nichole Moore is expected to give a presentation on the Housing Rehabilitation program and rounding out the council's agenda is September's first meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 4, due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
