Darien to speak at AEDC banquet

The president and CEO of Tri-State Cast Technologies, Andy Darien, will be the keynote speaker at the 2010 AEDC Membership Banquet to be held Thursday, March 25 at the Manhattan Restaurant.

Darien founded Tri-State Cast Technologies Inc. in 1974 and has grown the business to include several locations throughout the United States and abroad. The company specializes in aluminum, brass and bronze castings using the latest technology including CNC machining to manufacture parts for aircraft, transportation systems, energy, material handling and agriculture industries, just to name a few.

One of the sites of Tri-State Cast Technologies is Jef-Scot Metals, located here in Centerville, which was formed in 1978. Darien also founded Florida Machine and Casting Inc. in West Palm Beach, Fla. in 1988, Morrow Foundry Inc. in Coffeyville, Kan. in 1997 and Affiliated Global Technologies in 2006, which has locations in Oakville, Ontario, Qingdao, China and Bangalore, India.

Prior to his accomplishments in the cast technology field, Darien was a commercial credit analyst and market research and product planning analyst from 1969 to 1974. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University. He is a member of the American Foundry Society, the Auto Industry Action Group and a past board member of the Non-Ferrous Founders Society.

When not focused on his incredibly busy career, he enjoys fishing, firearms collecting and boating. He is a member of Ducks Unlimited and the L.C. Smith Collectors Association.

Darien is married to wife Sharon and has a daughter, Julie Weber and a son, John Darien, who is the CFO for Tri-State Cast Technologies.

This week the Iowegian wants readers to think about the recent decision by the Centerville Municipal Waterworks Board of Directors to increase the fee for late payment of water bills. In a story published in Wednesday's Ad Express, board members announced a 10 percent late fee after two days late, a $50 red tag fee for accounts unpaid after seven days late and a $25 shut off fee, water service terminated after two weeks late. The board said the decision to increase the fees associated with late payment is to encourage customers to pay their bills on time. So, the question this week is, "Are these fees too much to ask for?"
