CENTERVILLE —
Democrat incumbent Dave Loebsack on his "100% of Iowa Tour" in Centerville reiterated how his opponent is out of touch on the issues important to Iowans.
Loebsack made those comments during a 50 minute meeting where 25 came and went at Tangleberries in Centerville on Friday, Nov. 2.
Loebsack pointed out his challenger, John Archer, is not fit to be a congressman because he cannot relate to a lot of Americans.
Loebsack said Archer has called veterans, seniors and the disabled "a weakness" because they are part of the 49 percent of American's who believe they are entitled to a government handout.
Loebsack said Archer was targeting veterans, social security recipients, Medicare recipients, Women, Infant, Children recipients and LIHEAP recipients.
"And it goes beyond that," Loebsack said. "To refer to a veteran as a weakness or to refer to a senior citizen as a real weakness ... I've said it before and keep saying it, I think it's insulting."
To hold views like Archer's disqualifies one from being a congressman, Loebsack said.
Archer's other ideas that would harm seniors are Medicare voucherization, the repeal of Obamacare and the privatization of social security.
"I would never vote to privatize social security benefits," Loebsack said.
Loebsack listened to several audience members talk about school loans, bank bailouts, bi-partisanship and veterans.
Dr. Tom Johnson, of Centerville, who served in the Vietnam War, thanked Loebsack for his support of veterans.
"And I appreciate what you've done for veterans," Johnson said. "We always have to take care of the people that serve for us."
Loebsack talked about legislation while in the majority and minority in the House where it received bi-partisan support and his willingness to reach across the aisle to get things done.
"I'll work with anybody, folks, to do the right thing for my district, for my state and for the country," Loebsack said.
Loebsack has been Iowa's second district congressman the last six years and is seeking his fourth term.
