CENTERVILLE —
The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors Monday, Jan. 21 in regular session at 9 a.m. in the Courthouse boardroom approved 100 percent appropriations for budget amendments of $1,202,000 for mental health and $696,956 for secondary road.
Supervisors Dean Kaster, Jody McDanel and Neal Smith were present.
Lottie Wilson, chairperson, Appanoose County public health department, gave the supervisors an update on the transition to combine Appanoose and Wayne County public health departments under the banner of a District Board of Health. Combining two county public health departments would be the first in Iowa, Kaster said.
McDanel said combining public health with another county will provide more services at a reduced cost to the property tax payers.
In other action:
The board voted to set a Feb. 4 at 9:30 a.m. public hearing for Fred and Kimberly Reiners to change property zoning to commercial.
The board voted to appoint Kaster as delegate and Smith as alternate to Central Iowa Juvenile Detention.
The board voted to approve a project agreement for Appanoose County Soap Creek Watershed and Moulton Watershed to repair a rusted outlet pipe structure with Southern Iowa Development and Conservation Authority.
The board voted to approve a design agreement for the Dewey Road bridge.
The board voted to approve hiring George Appleby for litigation.
Heather Lear resigned from public health effective Jan. 28.
The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors next meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4 in the Courthouse boardroom.
