CENTERVILLE —
Appanoose County Republicans caucused Tuesday night at the Centerville High School, the Moravia High School and the Garrett Memorial Library in Moulton.
The Iowa GOP reports 537 votes were cast in Appanoose County. Rick Santorum easily carried Appanoose County with 174 votes, followed by Rick Perry with 90 votes, Mitt Romney with 87 votes, Ron Paul with 77 votes, Newt Gingrich with 71 votes, Michele Bachmann with 25 votes, Buddy Roemer with 12 votes and Jon Huntsman with one vote.
Other, Herman Cain and No Preference all received zero votes in Appanoose County.

State-wide, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the leadoff Iowa Republican presidential caucus Wednesday by eight votes over Rick Santorum.

In Appanoose County Democratic caucus-goers went 100 percent for President Barack Obama. All 75 county and four state delegates went to Obama.
Statewide, President Obama earned 98.46 percent of the reported delegates to the state convention. The 2012 Democratic Party state convention will be held in Des Moines on June 16.
