AEDC executive director report for January 2012

CENTERVILLE — The January 2012 Appanoose Economic Development Corporation executive director report from Tod Faris. The following is business communications by Faris up to Jan. 27.

Midwest Teleservices International: Eight new employees started the first week of January and 10 more employees have already been hired bringing the total to 18. All is going well so far.

Boat manufacturer: Faris hosted a meeting at AEDC with local lenders and representatives from the USDA and SBA to discuss the project.

Warehouse: AEDC sold two acres near the industrial park for a new warehouse to be built.

Jef-Scot Metal Industries: Met with Andy Darien, owner.  Currently have 21 employees (15 new employees since beginning expansion). JSM more than doubled their monthly production numbers from January to December 2011.

Lee Container: Currently have 119 employees and are operating 24/7.  Also are still hiring.

Barker Specialty Products: Currently hiring 10 more employees.

2012 Membership Drive: 212 membership letters were mailed Jan. 18 for 2012. The Board of Directors has a goal of growing the current 80 members to 100. Membership has steadily grown from 45 members in 2008.

AEDC Annual Banquet: The 2012 Banquet will be Thursday, March 22 at Honey Creek Resort. The featured speaker will be Kathy Hett, CEO of Midwest Teleservices International from Mohall, N.D. MTI opened a new facility in Moulton in January 2012 and already has 18 employees.  More details about the banquet and reservation information will be coming soon.

Public Appearances and Meetings: Faris attended Rotary regularly, Kaffee Klatch at Mercy Medical Center, and meetings with Gov. Branstad at IHCC Ottumwa, Coordinating Council, AEDC Annual Members, Rotary Board of Directors, Opportunity Squared in Ottumwa and Oskaloosa, All Play Board, APNC Board, Economic Development with City Council, with Jef-Scot Metal Industries owner, with local lenders about an business attraction project, Chariton Valley Regional Housing Trust Board in Humeston, County Board of Supervisors and USDA/FSA Public Comment at Faith United Methodist Church.

  • Wapello County trail rides

    The Wapello County Trails Council will host rides on the newest trail loop on Saturday, May 19, during their annual Mediathon fundraiser. The rides will be on an electric buggy, courtesy of Jefferson County Park. These rides will be limited to persons who are unable to access the trails, including the handicapped and the elderly only.
    Rides will originate in the John Deere parking lot near the Madison St. entrance starting at 10 a.m. and ending at noon. Donations will be accepted.
