CENTERVILLE —
The Centerville Fire Department at 11:34 a.m. responded to a fire call at Flywheel on Highway 5 south in Centerville Friday.
At the scene the engine compartment of a red Chevrolet 2500 truck loaded with tires and an external fuel tank in the bed had caught fire and was inside the building.
Centerville Fire Chief Mike Bogle said firefighters knocked down a majority of the fire and then a John Deere tractor was used to tow the truck approximately 40 feet out of the building.
Bogle said a mechanical malfunction or the electrical system was the reason for the fire.
The truck was a total loss, Bogle said.
Thin clouds of black smoke that had accumulated while the truck was in the building could be seen, but Bogle said the building was not damaged.
Eleven Centerville firefighters responded along with Mercy ambulance. Mutual aid was not requested.
Centerville Fire Department trucks and personnel were back at the station by 12:47 p.m.
