The group Friends of MU School formed in September of 2012 to help promote the Moulton-Udell School District are holding a meet your legislator night on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the Moulton Udell small gym before the home basketball game.
State Sen. Ken Rosenboom, State Sen. Mark Chelgren and State Rep. Larry Sheets, of Moulton, will be on hand to answer questions from the public about education issues as well as other issues that will be big in the legislature this year, such as tax reform and the rural improvement zone issues at Sundown Lake.
"We're going to try to be working with Larry and the two other legislators," said Todd Hanson, president of Friends of MU School. "Mark Chelgren used to be our senator but because of redistricting that's changed."
According to Hanson, the event will be moderated by Chris Dorsey, owner of the Moulton Tribune and is the biggest event the group currently has planned.
Hanson said the group formed around the idea of getting the word out about the Moulton-Udell District's accomplishments, including high test scores and graduation rates.
Vice president of the group is Rod Stevenson, secretary is Andrea Snider and treasurer is Tammy Wheeler. Others who have been involved in the group are David Powell, Marlin Morlan, Kelly Howard and Carol Howard. The group is currently in the process of becoming a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Once that is completed the group will be able to take donations.
