CENTERVILLE —
Bluegrass Music Association of Iowa, going strong after forming in 2008, is bringing six bluegrass bands for two days of music to Honey Creek Resort State Park Oct. 26-27.
Bluegrass bands scheduled to perform are The Chapmans, The Harpers, Bluegrass Addiction, Missouri River Band, Highway Home and Four Mile Creek.
Show times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. For ticket or more information contact Lori King at (641) 799-1442 or call Honey Creek Resort State Park.
Honey Creek Resort State Park is located in northern Appanoose County west of Moravia.
BMAI was formed by two friends — Lori King and "Uncle" Billy Dunbar — in 2008.
"Since BMAI was formed we've have seen a gradual increase each year in membership," King said. "We have also started a new program for youth called 'Play It Forward,' a lending library of bluegrass instruments."
King said the first Honey Creek Bluegrass Festival was in 2010 and the weekend of Oct. 26-27 will be the third annual.

King said everyone should come out to Honey Creek Resort State Park to enjoy the bluegrass festival because it's a family-friendly, affordable event in a wonderful location.
"We have hired quality entertainment from across the Midwest that is not generally offered in our area," King said. "The event is held indoors in the Ballroom and we have music vendors and merchandise vendors that will provide participants with the opportunity to purchase items needed or wanted."
King is also a band manager, bass player and vocalist for the group Bluegrass Addiction.
King, who came to know Dunbar through his online bluegrass shows and shared music venues, said those encounters led to discussions about the lack of number of places for bluegrass bands to perform, which led to the formation of BMAI, a non-profit 501c (3) organization with a nine member board of directors.
"No one person can make this happen and all volunteers and members play a huge role in BMAI," King said.
