CENTERVILLE —
Let's go on a haunted history tour.
If the Centerville City Council agrees during tonight's meeting at City Hall, Lisa Eddy, Appanoose County Historical & Coal Mining Museum curator, will bring the Haunted History Tour to Oakland Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 27.
A daylight tour starts at 3 p.m. with a twilight tour at 6:30 p.m. The tour of the west portion of Oakland Cemetery involves era-appropriate clothed actors at select grave sites of notable individuals who recreate through words a part of that individual's life.
The 2012 street improvements project is moving forward with the next step on the council agenda.
Specifically, the council will consider three agreements with Hall Engineering, of Centerville, for engineering services for the East State Street, West State Street and North 10th Street project areas.
The East State Street agreement between the city and Hall Engineering includes reconstruction of East State Street from Haynes Avenue to the entrance of Oakland Cemetery. The total cost for engineering services for the East State Street project is $100,600.
The North 10th Street agreement between the city and Hall Engineering includes reconstruction of North 10th Street from West Maple Street to West Washington Street. The total cost for engineering services for the North 10th Street project is $117,902.
The West State Street agreement between the city and Hall Engineering includes reconstruction of West State Street from 10th Street to Fifth Street. The total cost for engineering services for the West State Street project is $216,160.
The proposed Hall Engineering agreement for engineering services calls for engineering design, construction engineering, surveillance and staking for the 2012 street improvements project.
All three project areas include concrete and pavement removal, reinforced PCC pavement, PCC sidewalk, PCC driveway approaches, storm sewer and associated work.
An agenda item associated with the 2012 street improvements project the council will consider is the federal aid agreement for a Surface Transportation Program for the West State Street project area. The federal contribution is approximately $600,000.
The council will consider a resolution to fix a date to hold a public hearing on the proposed Centerville Municipal Airport improvement project to preserve and protect runway zones, obstacle free areas and open spaces to the building restriction line.
Part of the project includes the purchase of 47 acres of land in fee title and three acres of land by easement near the airport to be conducted by JCG Land Services. Documents included in the council agenda packet indicate the land will be acquired by eminent domain for public improvement. The packet shows five property owners, all of Centerville, who have property in the proposed airport improvement project area.
One agenda item for tonight's council meeting is to consider changes to the bow hunting within city limits rules and regulations for this fall.
Three agenda items for council consideration tonight deals with housing. One item is to consider setting a date for a public hearing on the housing rehabilitation program, consider changes to Bella Vista covenants and consider proposal for city to donate land to Chariton Valley Regional Housing Trust Fund for construction of a single family dwelling.
