The Fifth District of the American Legion of Iowa will host their annual fall conference on Oct. 6 at Post No. 136 in Albia.
For more information about the Fifth District's fall conference, contact Floyd Proctor at (641) 226-3644 or (641) 938-2706.
All military veterans who are current members of the organization are invited and encouraged to attend, as are veterans who want to know more about the largest veterans service organization in the nation.
"The American Legion of Iowa, over 55,000 members strong, is divided into nine districts throughout the state," State Commander Lyle Schaffer, of Galva, said. "Aside from the state convention, this is one of the most important meetings our members can attend, as each Legion Post in the district has the opportunity to gather fresh ideas and new information to bring back to their community."
The American Legion is often the first call when a veteran passes away in a community, so that proper military honors are provided. They also are a reliable source for information concerning service-connected injuries, illnesses and claims. The organization further provides emergency funds for our veterans' families, works to provide scholarship opportunities to the children and youth and educate our schools about the proper respect for our U.S. flag.
