The Bowl of Hygeia Award was established in 1958 by the A.H. Robins Pharmaceutical Company to recognize pharmacists who possess outstanding records of civic leadership in their communities and to encourage pharmacists to take active roles in local affairs.
In keeping with tradition the name of the recipient is kept secret, known only by a select few, until the evening of the annual banquet when it is announced.
Once his name was announced as the 2006 recipient Reznicek was called to the podium to accept the award. He was given a standing ovation as family and friends came from behind closed doors to join him at the front of the banquet hall.
“I was very surprised and very happy to see all the family and friends that came up to witness the award presentation.” Reznicek said “It is quite an honor to be selected.”
Earlier in the evening, Reznicek was also recognized for his 50 years of service as an Iowa Pharmacist and he was given a gold pin plus a plaque from the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

In 1964, The American Pharmacist Association adopted the Bowl of Hygeia as its symbol to represent the pharmacy profession.
Stephens named Distinguished Young Pharmacist
The Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) announced Lindsey Stephens, R.Ph. from Des Moines, is the 2006 recipient of the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award. She is originally from Centerville.

She distinguished herself while still in pharmacy school by purchasing an osteoporosis screening machine through a small business loan and utilizing this investment to perform screenings throughout the state. This early business venture led to the formation of Medihealth Solutions, Inc., a healthscreening and wellness franchise, which later became part of Medicap Pharmacies, Inc. As Medicap was purchased by Medicine Shoppe, Stephens remained with Medicine Shoppe as part of the administrative team located in West Des Moines. In addition she is the owner of a Medicap Pharmacy in Des Moines. Stephens is involved in many professional activities and is particularly active in legislation advocacy.

“Lindsey is a wonderful example of a distinguished young pharmacist. Her leadership exemplifies what this award is about.” said Tom Temple, Executive Vice President of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
