Two plead guilty to attack on Iowegian editor

By Mark Newman - Ottumwa Courier staff writer

BLOOMFIELD — Two men accused of attacking a Centerville newspaper editor have pleaded guilty.

The plea was made Friday on behalf of Centerville residents Wade Adams, 27 and Jeffery Horn, 26, in relation to their alleged September 2006 attack on Dan Ehl, editor of the Daily Iowegian. The pair pled guilty to willful injury, a class D felony. They had been charged with a class C felony.

Reports state the two attackers punched, kicked and stomped on Ehl outside a Centerville bar. Ehl suffered a broken leg and injuries to his face.

Ehl claimed the attack was motivated by an article he wrote about a city council meeting. During the meeting, the council discussed Adams’ liquor license.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 11 in Davis County.

According to Appanoose County Attorney Robert Boswell, the time between plea and sentencing gives the judge, the defense and the state time to gather information so the court can make an informed ruling.
