City Council again looking at banning pitbulls

By Dan Ehl - Managing editor

The Centerville City Council Monday discussed updating its vicious dog ordinance to ban pitbulls or “any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominately of breeds to bull terrier, Stafford shire bull terrier, American bull terrier, American Stafford bull terrier.”

Council members Marsha Mitchell and Kris Koestner said they knew it would cause a great deal of dissent, but believed the ban is needed to prevent future injuries because of the dangerous characteristics of the breed.

The council tabled setting a public hearing to amend city ordinances dealing with animals until the public had time to contact City Hall or individual council members about the proposed change.
