The Centerville Community School District has been notified by the Iowa Department of Education that the district’s 4-year-old voluntary preschool program has been accepted. The late notice came about because the first tier enrollment count was lower than expected, providing funds for the second tier.
The district plans to accept the funding with the premise that the free 4-year-old preschool programs will be available in Centerville for any student not qualifying for area Head Start Programs. These programs must meet the minimum requirements set forth by state regulations.
The programs must also be in operation not later than the week of Oct. 22-26.
This district is currently working with local preschool providers of 4 year olds on the specific details. They have set a date of no later that Oct. 1 as when the final details will be released to parents and the community.
Those with 4 year olds (must be 4 years old before Sept. 15) who are not currently attending a preschool program at St. Mary’s, Lollipop, Kid’s World or Head Start are asked to contact the Centerville Administration Office (856-0601) and provide enrollment information.
The district and providers will work diligently to try and get these programs up and working as soon as possible, say school officials. They also ask that the public be patient as the details will be provided as soon as they are available.
