Bomb threat
At 9:07 am Friday, 22 February 2008, the Centerville Law Center received a call from Howar Junior High Principal, Bruce Karpen, concerning a note found in the school indicating a bomb was to go off at 9:05 am. Karpen had evacuated all students and staff from the Junior High and buses were called to the school to allow them to stay warm due to the weather. The students and staff were then taken to the parking lot of Lakeview Elementary School until the building could be cleared.
Members of the Centerville Police Department, Appanoose County Sheriff's Office and the Centervilele Fire Department responded to the call. With the assistance of 3 members of the Centerville School System, a search of the building was conduct3d and no devices or suspicious items were found.
The students and staff were allowed to return to class at approximately 10:30 am.
The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Centerville Police Department.
