The scope of this accident is bigger than anyone realizes, and I believe that Jesus allowed this potential tragedy for a reason.
My daughter Heather explained to me that night in the ER at Wayne County Hospital that just before the accident the girls weren’t wearing their seat belts. Heather said that Jesus (Yeshua) placed on her heart right before the accident that she needed to pray. Heather said that she started to pray, and a few minutes later they saw the police car that clocked the kids doing 133 mph. The girls said to each other "Oh, put on your seat belts!" They did and then the roll over happened.
I believe that God strategically placed the police car in the kids path to save the girls. There is no way they could have survived this accident had they not been wearing their seat belts.
I asked Heather if she prayed because she was scared. She said "No Mom, God just placed it on my heart, and somehow I knew this was going to happen."
The State Trooper phoned us from his own cell phone so that we could get to the hospital, and told me the kids had been involved in a pretty serious accident. He told me to get there a quickly but as safely as possible and asked if I had another person to drive me there.
He called from the scene of the accident and could not tell me if Heather was going to be okay, but stated that she was complaining of back and neck pain. That was all he could tell me from a medical stand point.
I left without knowing if she would be okay. My kids and I started driving to Corydon (Wayne County Hospital). I was worried and have to admit a bit angry that I had let her be in this position. On the way down I told my son, it does not matter as long as she is going to be okay.
After passing Centerville and about half way to Corydon, I noticed that my gas tank had not moved off of full. I told my son that I knew Heather was going to be okay, because it usually takes a little over an eighth of a tank just to get to Centerville. Then we got behind an inebriated driver doing 45 mph. I did not want to pass him because he had been swerving in the lane. So we were forced to stay behind him. My son said "It's okay Mom, God has a reason." So we stayed behind him, and soon a deer ran in front of his car. He was inebriated but evidently was very experienced at watching for deer and knowing how to avoid hitting them.
My son said, "See Mom, if he had not been there we would have been traveling faster and could have hit that deer."
I believe that Jesus would want everyone to know what He did, to save the kids’ lives.
One other sign we had from Jesus that everything would be okay is, when they were taking my daughter in to do a cat scan, one of the EMT drivers took us through a door and showed us where we could sit down. I sat down and my eyes were drawn to a painting that said, "The power of belief.” I pointed it out to my son and said, "There is another sign that everything is going to be okay."
I also want to say I was not seeking a sign, but God put them there to comfort us and show us, His hand in all of this. I would also like to thank the State Trooper who phoned from his own cell phone at the scene of the accident to notify us about what had happened. And I would like to thank the Wayne county hospital Medical staff ( doctors , nurses, and EMT personnel) for there quick response, there wonderful care , and kindness through all of this. One man in charge of Heather's care after transferring us to a room, even went on map quest to get us a map of how to get to the hospital. I told him I don't know how to drive in Des Moines even when there is not flooding and was worried I could not find the hospital. So he phoned the hospital to ask what roads were flooded and then went on map quest to get us directions. I ask God to bless all of these people, with love, peace , joy and abundance. In Jesus' name. And first and foremost I want to Thank Jesus for saving the kids lives (with out Him they would not be here), and placing all these wonderful people in our path. It is all about Jesus , His mercy and kindness we can't even fathom. I also am not angry at the driver, he is a typical teenager, and he did not set out to do this, but I hope that he and all the kids learn from this experience, and that life is precious and we should cherish each and every day with our loved ones. When I was a teenager I was pulled over for speeding, and I did not have a seat belt on, I asked the policeman why we had to wear seat belts in the first place, because they did not used to enforce the seat belt laws. The policeman responded " Because in all my years on the police force , I have never cut a dead person out of a seat belt. "
I would like to add that Heather is doing good, the hand specialist operated on the base of her thumb yesterday. He did a beautiful job putting it back together. She has three compression fractures in her vertebrae, they can not do anything about, and a hairline fracture in her neck. She is healing ,and feeling much better. She has learned from this tragedy as well, and is thankful that Jesus spared her life.
