On April 28, 2008 Chuck Deatsch was shot and killed at his residence in rural Mystic.
The day that Chuck was killed, a father; husband; best friend; respected farmer; a good neighbor; and a man devoted to God was taken from so many.
When Chuck Deatsch was killed, it shocked and placed fear in so many in our community. Citizens in Appanoose County and surrounding areas changed the way they lived and continue to be leery of their surroundings. As life has continued for many it has came to a stand still for others. Until the case is cleared and the family gets closure on this senseless death their lives will continue to stand still. As a result of Chuck’s shooting, family dreams; companionship; fatherly advice; farming business; and the hope of grandchildren knowing their grandfather have been stripped.
The death of Chuck Deatsch has been and continues to be investigated. Several leads have been followed upon, neighborhood canvass’ have been conducted and several people interviewed in the investigation.
Early during the investigation Appanoose County Sheriff, Gary D. Anderson posted a $10,000 reward for information leading the arrest of the person(s) responsible for Chuck Deatsch’s death. After the sheriff’s office reward was posted additional funds were allocated. Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company also offered up to a $10,000 reward which increased the reward up to $31,000.
Appanoose County Sheriff, Gary D. Anderson stated, “Someone knows who is responsible for and knows the reason behind Chuck Deatsch’s death. Whatever that reason is and whomever that person may be I want and the family needs them to come forward with their information.”
Therefore, the reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for Chuck Deatsch’s death is being increased up to $40,000.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Appanoose County Sheriff at (641) 437-7100 or Crime Stoppers at (641) 856-3134.
